Due to some inspiration and thought, I have decided to create a page, over to your top left, labeled, "Workout Log". I have been asked about a billion times for a gym routine and what I eat on a normal basics. I continue to tell people I don’t know much and just research on the net, but some still insist. Plus I think it would be good for me to have one place to look at all this information instead of my papers of workout logs, and my memory. My memory is slowly dying so maybe this one day will rescue me from permanent forgetfulness.
So, this is where I’m going to post my workouts and my normal eating plan for a certain time period. I’m not going to post an everyday thing, mainly because I know how I am and I won’t do it. I can do a workout period though. Nothing really changes during this time period for working out and I pretty much eat the same. My workout periods or workouts normally last 4-6 weeks. Changing up everything to a different routine is essential to grow and to be honest, boredom.
If you have ANY questions about the food, workouts or anything whatsoever, you can leave me a comment on that page and I will respond via that page. This is mainly for my benifit and the ones who have asked. Hopefully it will help some people and give them some ideas. Everyone is different and it’s ok to change things. Switch it up and most of all, have fun.
I have posted other blogs here before but I don’t know if it’s better to just copy and paste and put a link at the bottom or just post a link to this blog. I tend to read stuff that’s in front of me instead of doing a bunch of clicking.
Anyways, below is a guest blog post from a site I visit often: zenhabits.net
I have said this before but I only do this copy and paste thing when I love what the article is saying and find it important to me.
I really don’t like the title for this blog post but I didn’t write it. I think as a whole this explains in simple format, the “bottom line” on how to live that lifestyle and what to watch out for through knowledge. This article does that.
Read on if you wish.
Anyone who is overweight will testify that losing weight is not as easy as it seems. The people that are lean, or have gone from fat to skinny will say it’s just a matter of motivation and elbow grease.
If you’re overweight then you’ve probably experienced the sharp end of the ridicule stick from many people in your life. It can’t possibly feel good, and that type of attention isn’t helping your weight loss goals either.
The fact is that such negative reinforcement creates a real psychological depression, and the very real scientific way that your body deals with this is my craving more carbohydrates. This is all part of the vicious cycle and part of the reason why being overweight, especially in America, is not just a lack of motivation.
1. Slowing Metabolism . As we cut calories, and lose weight, our metabolism slows down, making it more difficult to shed the pounds.
2. McDonald’s Policy . The McDonald’s corporation mission statement is to have a McDonald’s within 4 minutes of every American as well as to have 7% of the population eat there at least once a day. That’s just one of the many fast food franchises.
3. Sedentary Jobs . Life isn’t like the little house on the prairie anymore. We aren’t using massive amounts of energy to hunt and kill, churn butter, and chop wood. We sit in front of our computers and have vehicles transport us to and fro.
4.Household Chores . The things we have to do around the house have gotten easier and easier. Just look at the newest washing mashings, dishwashers, computers, remote control devices, and microwave ovens. That’s just an example, look at everything else that’s so easy to do and takes away from our energy expenditure.
5. Prepared Foods . As I mentioned above, people used to have to hunt for food, or at least cook it. Now you can walk into any grocery store and gorge on high-sugar, high-carb, and empty calorie foods. They’re easier and cheaper to get than fruit.
6. Portion Sizes . Most fast food meals are over 1000 calories. Other restaurants have very large portion sizes. The temptation is there, and they’re not making it easier on us.
7.Daily Workouts Not Enough . Even if you run every day on the treadmill you aren’t burning the necessary amount of calories to balance the energy intake of the ‘Standard American Diet’. The rest of the world may laugh, but convenience and fast food are coming their way soon.
8. Fad Diets- Harmful . Most of the fad diets on the market are helping you do one thing. Lose weight, by getting rid of water and lean muscle mass. That’s how you lose those 5-10 lbs so quickly, but than get them back even quicker.
9. Fat Cells Multiply- Permanently . That’s right, once you’ve gone overweight your fat cells multiplied and grew. When you lose some weight your body wants to maintain homeostasis and the fats cells want to grow again.
10.Genetic factors . Certain people are just predisposed to have more fat cells in their bodies. That’s how some people can eat whatever they want and ‘appear’ healthy, while other’s become extremely overweight. However, keep in mind that we haven’t experienced evolution in 40,000 years while we keep getting fatter and fatter. Seems like the environment is more to blame.
The information provided above shows that it’s not a matter of having a lack of motivation. Our environments have waged war on us. Their weapons are sedentary lives and trans fats of mass destruction. All is not lost though, we can stand strong and fight for what we believe in. We can fight for zen, simplicity, and health for all, and here’s how …
8 Steps To Take Control of Your Weight
1. Substitute Water . Our bodies are about 65-70% water. It follows that water would be not only essential, but the best possibly choice of liquids to ingest. In fact, our bodies will sometimes simulate a hunger response, when in reality the body is craving hydration. When hungry, drink a glass or two of water to check if it suppresses your hunger.
2. Chew Your Food . Chewing our food very slowly and deliberately has several benefits that are often overlooked. It gives us the ability to relax, and enjoy our meal. Slow chewing is the first, and highly important, step in a complex system of digestion. Besides, if we eat slowly, we might feel full before finishing the whole meal, and can leave the rest for the next meal.
3.Exercise daily . How silly of me to include something as obvious as exercise. I did a 30 day trial with waking up, and walking for 30 minutes first thing in the morning. My journal records that I was feeling amazing during the period of time that I was following this habit.
4. Publicize your intentions . The same way that Leo publicizes his challenges and book writing goals you can make your own goals public. Start a blog, join a forum, and have other people keep you accountable to help.
5.Create a food schedule . Plan your day so that you’re eating at approximately the same time each day. This scheduling will incorporate itself into your circadian rhythm, and aid in digestion.
6. Do not over eat . Know your limit and stop eating when you are full. I have often been a victim of wanting to finish a meal so that it doesn’t go to waste. This has left me with many a stomach ache. Next time, doggy bag it for later, and don’t hurt yourself!
7. Choose your snacks wisely . Put down the Doritos® and cheese puffs. Pick up the apple and baby carrots. Make the right decision, I know you can do it.
8. Lifestyle . Remember, it’s not about special diets, or special exercise programs. The real secret is in turning your health into a lifestyle, and focusing on this healthy lifestyle with every choice you make.
Have no idea why I did the “BeYoNd” thing but it was fun.
Well, sort of want to put down some of my thoughts and happenings from this past week and such, so here I go. This past weekend was July 4th . I and the folks went out to this lake house that is a friend of my moms. They went away on vacation and asked mom to house sit and watch their ever-loving stuck up dog. Who btw has this phobia of someone touching her back? I preformed some “Dog Whisper” on her, which I will go into later.
It is a log cabin house that is cute and quant. It has a sloping backyard that goes toward to river and where the jet skis and boat is. I would love to have this sort of house or better yet, just the location. After this weekend I have moved into another zone of wanting to live on the water or at least convince my parents too. It’s just so relaxing and makes you look at life differently if you appreciate it enough.
Mom had been there at the house for almost a week when the 4th arrived, so she was pretty settled in and could show me around some. We did some jet skiing and then ate dinner. Couldn’t really remember what we had. We talked on the pouch and drank some wine and beer. A really good time. I can’t really explain it. We all decided to drive out in the middle of the river to watch the fireworks that the City of Florence was putting on. It’s always but the main Marina in Florence, which was viable from our spot. We just talked and laughed about things and took pictures. After the fireworks show we went back to the house and talked some out on the porch, and enjoyed the quiet of the evening.
I went home that night and hung out with a friend named Kevin for a bit. I really didn’t want to plan anything big for the 4th this year. I mean I had opportunities to go to the river and something else, but I really wanted to just chill out with the folks.
The next morning I got up and went straight out there again and got greeted with a gorgeous sunshine. My parent’s friend Jay and his daughter Callie were there also. They stayed most of the afternoon and evening. We swam and jet skied and just enjoyed ourselves. At one point I had to swim a good bit to help Jay push the Jet Ski in after he flipped it. It was because he flipped it but because the battery was low. This was his first time on one and he loves to push things to the limit speed wise. We did some tubing too which was fun, but not as fun as I had remembered it. Not so fun falling off at a fast speed onto some hard water. Headache came to me just like I thought it would. Reminded me that I wasn’t as young as before. Funny how we see little things like not enjoying things as much as we once did. Rather lay back and drink a beer to be honest. Maybe that’s sad and maybe it’s not.
That night had some grilled Salmon which was pretty good. We played Rubbicube, if I’m spelling that right. Sort of like spades but with domino looking things. I got up the next morning with the worst crick in my neck that I ever had. I shook it off most of the day and was fine just ignoring it, just couldn’t look to my right side to far. Oh, and my awesome father bought me a fishing rode because I guess he saw that I was interested in the one in bought mom. I love fishing with my bud Wes, we have had some great times late at night just relaxing and on the river. So, any who I thought that was a very cool thing for Dad to do and I was pretty excited. I used it a lot that day and caught around 4 small crappies, and always let them go. Again, we went on the river and I did some jet skiing and got in trouble by the river police, or whatever you call them. Was splashing the boat my folks was in and he seen that as dangerous, which he was right. Anyways, after that I just got on the boat with mom and dad and we went out in the middle of the river, threw out some floating mats and relaxed. Me and Dad floated and drank beer for had to be 2 hours. Sooooooo nice. It was sunny and the water is so warm. What a day. What a weekend rather.
One thing I saw from this weekend is how close I and my parents are now getting. I have let go of a lot of things and are living in the Now more and more. My life has been changing over the past couple of months a lot and I think it’s for the better. I can honestly say I am at one of my happiness moments since leaving childhood.
Oh, and today I got to go to my first chiropractor appointment! Crazy all the stuff they do to you. Tapping here and tapping there. After that she laid me down and made my legs straight and my left side of my body was lower than my right. Freakin weird! Then I laid on my side, she did a little more tapping, walked down the hall, laid down again and then boom. I was straight as an arrow. Craziness. After that she put some electric shock pads all over my lower and upper neck, with an ice pack underneath. I mean I was about to laugh it felt so weird. My neck was spazzing all over the place. Did that for about 15 mins and I was done. All in all my crick still feels the same but she said it would and for me to come back in 2 days. The long term is what it well help. My mom swears by them so I’m game.
Off to ice my neck like a good boy and then watch a movie.
Oh, and I’m going to Zen the heck out of this place. I came home and threw everything off my porch and sweep it. Trashed most of the stuff out there. I’m going for clean and NO CLUTTER. Not just talking about cleaning up, but only having what I NEED. That’s it. Maybe a flower or two here and there, but all in all, freaking nothing. Free the mind people.
Gas Prices are at all time highs right now and don’t look like there is any end in site. I really don’ t think we will ever see them low again. I really don’t want to get in all the reasons why or how they could be high but I do want to post these maps so I can remember this when I look back years later.
I know living out West, costs are higher. But, they also make more. Cost of living and so forth. These maps side by side are funny though. On one you see the gas across the country and what we are paying here in the US. On the other you see the percentage of someones income that is spent of gas. I could argue points to all of reasons but it feels better just to look and not even try. (sigh…..)
